THE COLLECTOR AND THE ALCHEMIST

Overview

Come to the Bas in Moruya to see the works of Carmel Cox and Paul Dimmer in their dual exhibition ‘The Collector and the Alchemist’.

In a quest to create a distinct experience, the artists have become both collector and alchemist, exploring and experimenting with both 2D and 3D forms.

The careful selection and layering of materials, most of which are second-hand or recycled, is a pivotal element in both artist’s creative process. This battle with old surfaces has resulted in playful, surreal and subversive objects and realms that are both post-apocalyptic and pay homage to a time gone by.

The Collector and the Alchemist is an exhibition of quirk and humor, with deliberate overtones of industrial and mechanical grunge, with a steam punk theme. Visitors

Paul Dimmer and Carmel Cox, both Long Beach artists are holding a joint exhibition in the new Basil Sellers Exhibition Space (called the BAS) which is located behind the Moruya Library.

This is an eclectic show of mischief and charm. There are sculptures and paintings that will delight the audience with their quirkiness.

After our beautiful south coast was devastated by fires, we hope that this lovely exhibition will be uplifting and full of laughter…and helps to heal our community.

The show is on for 3 weeks, so please do come and support us.

Opening Night is Friday 14 February at 6pm…and then the exhibition continues daily from Saturday 15 February until Sunday 8 March (but closed every Monday).
On Saturday 15 February at 11.00am, both Paul and Carmel will be at the BAS Gallery to discuss their art practice and answer any questions.

ENGINEERING

Vampire Restoration One of the restorations that is keeping our engineers busy is the Vampire. Parts of the Goblin engine are currently being painted, the fuel nozzles are in Belgium being flowed, the burner cans are in the UK being overhauled, and we are manufacturing the flexible engine hoses. In terms of assembling the aircraft, the wheels, rudders and elevators are back on and connected, and the tail plane extensions have been fitted. No return to service date, but everything is looking very positive. Canberra Bomber Restoration We know that our fans are keen to hear about the Canberra, so you will be glad to know that the engines are en route from the UK, and scheduled to arrive early- mid Feb. The start system battery box (for the carriage of the 5 batteries that are required to start the engines) is currently being worked on, which is very positive news. No return to service date yet, but we will be sure to keep you posted.
